The First Question

The inward Journey

There is One who knows you better than you know yourself. He has sent His Word to heal and restore you, removing the junk that lives between your face and His. You are invited to join a journey to intimacy. It is not a journey that brings us closer with step to the heart of the One who breathed you alive. Intimacy transforms, heals, and reveals the love between two hearts, your and His. The Spirit and all of creation groans with the desire that you would know the One whose breath fills and animates you. Engage the intimate journey through the message of love in the Scriptures. Learn to see and experience greater depths of intimacy and resting in the heart of God.

The Intimate Journey

In His earthly ministry, Jesus walked closely with a small group of followers. This journey was one where doubts and fears were overcome and the reign of God was revealed. This intimate journey was punctuated with questions that stirred and challenged the understanding of His followers. You are no less of a follower of Jesus and now He asks you the same questions. For this intimate journey you will need a notebook or journal to capture the questions and answer of a conversation between your heart and the heart of Jesus through, by and for whom you were breathed alive.

Intimate Questions

“Again the next day John was standing with two of his disciples, and he looked at Jesus as He walked, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!” The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. And Jesus turned and saw them following, and said to them, “What do you seek?” They said to Him, “Rabbi (which translated means Teacher), where are You staying?” He said to them, “Come, and you will see.” So they came and saw where He was staying; and they stayed with Him that day, for it was about the tenth hour.” (John 1:35–39 NAS95)

Imagine you are seeing Jesus for the very first time, the holy Lamb of God. Jesus walks into your everyday routine. Read the scripture text above a few times slowly and then close your eyes. What images come to mind as the words soak deeply into you? How do you see this scene unfolding in with the eyes of your heart? Take a minute to capture the images that came to mind

What do those images tell you about the heart of God?

Now, put yourself into the scene and take the place of those first followers. Imagine Jesus turning around looking deeply into your eyes. He asks you the same question, “What do you seek? What are you looking for? What is your heart’s desire? Stay face to face with Jesus and allow the answer to surface. Speak the answer back to Jesus as you stand face to face and listen for His voice to respond. Capture His words spoken to your heart in your journal.
